We’re midway through the 2017 movie year and it’s time to check in on what the most anticipated movies are to close out the second half of the year.
These rankings are coming off a master list over on Ranker, where films that have already hit theaters are locked into position. You can still vote on movies that have not arrived in theaters yet.
Let’s get the obvious one out of the way first. Leading the way is Star Wars: The Last Jedi which hits theaters December 15 and will continue the new trilogy of Star Wars Skywalker saga movies.
Wonder Woman was not far off in second and it’s opening weekend box office validates it’s rank. But with the film already screened, the second most anticipated movie remaining for 2017 goes to the other DCEU movie, The Justice League.
The Justice League arrives in theaters November 17 (a few weeks after Thor: Ragnarok) and teams together Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman, and the still to be seen Superman. Zack Snyder recently exited the film due to a family tragedy and handed the reins to ever-capable Joss Whedon.
Third and fourth on the list are a pair of Marvel movies – Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok, respectively. Strangely, Spider-Man is locked into place (possibly a site glitch) but will nonetheless swing into theaters July 7.
Thor: Ragnarok arrives in theaters November 3.
War for the Planet of the Apes (July 14), It (September 8), Blade Runner 2049 (October 6), Dunkirk (July 21), and Kingsman: The Golden Circle (October 6) round out the top ten in that order.
Peeking in just outside of the top ten movies is Despicable Me 3 (June 30), The Dark Tower (July 28), Transformers: The Last Knight (June 23), and (sigh) Jumanji (December 22).
Jump on over to the Ranker list and select which remaining 2017 movies you’re looking forward to seeing (or not seeing) while there’s still time.
My personal remaining three: Star Wars, Spider-Man, Dunkirk.
