As Disney chairman Alan Horn said at the beginning of the Disney Live Action Movie panel this morning, “Where do you begin?” Lucky for us, it all began with Marvel as Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige took to the stage to first thank fans for their support throughout Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Then the attention shifted to Phase 3 which started with Doctor Strange. Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the title role, sent in a video message from London where he is currently starring in Hamlet. Concept art was then shown as Cumberbatch said the film would begin production in November this year.
Captain America: Civil War was up next as Feige was joined on stage by Anthony Mackie (The Falcon) who introduced Chris Evans to a standing ovation. Both actors flew in from Germany the night before where the film is wrapping up its final week of shooting.
An extended teaser reel was shown from the movie which begins with Captain America and Crossbones battling it out in what looked like a desert flea market.
Next, we saw glimpses of Black Panther, Iron Man and Cap arguing (again), Black Widow vs. Hawkeye and the end stinger featured Ant-Man who greets Cap with all sorts of awkwardness. Scarlet Witch is also on Cap’s side in the film.
Surprisingly that was it for Marvel. It was brief, efficient and gave fans just enough of a taste for the next Phase of films.
