Countdown to D23: ‘Captain America’ ‘Star Wars’ Lead Disney Films

We’re well on our way in our countdown to Disney’s D23 Expo and today, we shine the spotlight on Disney’s presentation of some of their upcoming films. We took a look at Pixar Animation on Wednesday and we’ll be tackling Disney Animation later this week, but in terms of live-action fare, Marvel and Star Wars are set to break the internet on August 15.

The Saturday morning presentation will include looks at Captain America: Civil War and Star Wars: The Force Awakens along with yet to be revealed special guests. We’re thinking Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. appear for Marvel and the core trio for Star Wars hits the stage, but we’ll have to wait and see.

While those two films look to covet much of the spotlight, a couple of other Disney live action movies will also be showcased for the crowd. The Alice in Wonderland sequel Alice Through The Looking Glass and the live action take on The Jungle Book will offer first looks.

Perhaps Disney will sneak in Beauty and the Beast and bring out actors Emma Watson and Dan Stevens for some face time. The film will arrive in theaters before the next D23 Expo in 2017, so they may start to build interest much like what they did in 2013 with the live action Cinderella.

Disney likes to drop special, unannounced sneak peeks during their live action film presentation and this year shouldn’t be any different. What those unannounced films will be is still a mystery but we can speculate that perhaps there will be more Marvel including perhaps a stinger for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and, fingers crossed, the reveal of who will be playing the title character in Doctor Strange. The new Spider-Man, Tom Holland, might also make an appearance as well despite the character being co-owned between Disney and Sony.

We could continue to speculate until the sun goes down… and comes back up again, but those are the best educated guesses as to the surprises that Disney might have in store for us. We’ll find out beginning August 14 when D23 Expo takes over the Anaheim Convention Center. Follow along on Instagram for updates from the event!
