MGM and Paramount thought they might have found their female for upcoming Ben-Hur remake with rising star and DC Comics’ Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot. Looks like now they’ll be going back to square one as Gadot turned down the offer due to WB’s massive slate of DC Comics films which she’ll be a part of.
In addition to 2016’s Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Gadot is committed to starring in a solo Wonder Woman movie (in 2017) along with two more Justice League films set to release 2017 and 2019.
Such is the drawback for actors committing to these large comic book movie universes, but the benefits often make it worth it. In addition to the sizeable payday, you get worldwide recognition and guaranteed employment for the length of your contract. MGM/Paramount’s Ben-Hur may certainly do well at the box office, but it’ll be forgotten a few months after it has been released in theaters.
Ben-Hur doesn’t have a release date yet but we can probably expect it sometime in 2016.
