5 Sequels and Reboots Sold This Week Including ‘Indy’ and ‘Oz’

Hollywood loves a franchise it can milk every last dollar out of so it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that two particular money-makers have officially sold scripts for upcoming features.

Indy

Indiana Jones 5 is officially on the way, though with no release date targeted just yet. You can also probably guess that Harrison Ford’s involvement in this fifth movie would most likely be minimal at the most.

The other Disney sequel headed our way has been in development for about a year now. The sequel to the James Franco fantasy prequel Oz The Great and Powerful officially has a completed script, although one can expect it to go under several drafts of revisions.

Though not necessarily a sequel, I suppose you could call it a sequel to movies based on Disneyland rides. Pirates of the Caribbean has proven to be such a lucrative moneymaker for the studio that they couldn’t resist turning Splash Mountain into a feature film. No release date for the movie, but expect it sometime in 2016.

Outside of Disney another sequel is brewing, whether you like it or not. Sony Animation’s Hotel Transylvania sequel has a script now, with Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison production company producing. Hotel Transylvania 2 is due in theaters September 25, 2015.

Finally, sticking with the family movie theme, DreamWorks and Universal have teamed up to reboot Casper the Friendly Ghost. Universal created the most successful adaptation of Casper with their 1995 live action movie that starred Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci. This latest reboot is likely to take advantage of CGI technology, much like The Smurfs, Garfield and other beloved childhood cartoon characters.
