Looks like the search for Christian Grey continues.
Charlie Hunnam, who had been cast in the film last month, has exited the Grey role.
Universal issued the following statement regarding Hunnam’s departure from the film:
“The filmmakers of Fifty Shades Of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”
Blaming Hunnam’s responsibilities on Sons of Anarchy seems like an easy out, though the real truth may be closer to Hunnam having time to think about the role and Universal having second thoughts based on fans’ reaction to his casting.
If you think this reignites the chances of guys like Christian Bale, Michael Fassbender and Ryan Goslin of taking the role, think again. It’s not likely any of those big names are likely to sign on. And Matt Bomer? There’s certainly a chance he could sign on, but I doubt it. Given the material, I’m guessing Universal ends up casting another relative unknown as Christian Grey.

Who do you think should replace Hunnam as Christian Grey?
Fifty Shades of Grey is scheduled to being production next month and arrive in theaters on August 1, 2014.
