100 Years of Movies in 100 Days – Day 95 – Anchorman (2004)

Stay classy San Diego.

Stay classy San Diego.

I’d be re-missed if I didn’t screen a Will Ferrell movie somewhere in the 90’s/2000’s. And since the 90’s left us a while ago and the end of the road is very near (and I have some awesome group of movies lined up to close this thing out) I decided I’d screen one of the most iconic characters in the actor’s filmography. I’m talking, of course, about Ron Burgandy aka Anchorman.

I’m going to be honest. The first time I watched this in 2004, I didn’t really get it. It was just a series of dick jokes mixed in with sexist demeaning dialogue. Sure there were parts that made me laugh, but for the most part, I just sat there trying to figure out what the hell I was watching. The only thing I took away from the first viewing was the epic newscasters battle royale at the end.

Love Carrell's face in this pic. Hahaha

This second time around, having aged and had life beat the crap out of me a little more, I was able to appreciate (?) the humor and random Tourette-like crudeness that spewed from Burgandy’s mouth. You work in the entertainment business long enough, you’ll run into a Ron Burgandy every now and then. An ignorant self-serving jackass who keeps his priorities really, really simple; eat, sleep and f**k. And put fellow news anchors to shame while drinking Scotch on the air.

So now I can check Ferrell off the list. Thank goodness too cuz the only movie I would want to watch again out of his remaining filmography is Wedding Crashers but only cuz Rachel McAdams graces us with her prescence midway through. OK and maybe Talladega Nights and Blades of Glory. Speaking of which, Morning Glory screening tomorrow night! Woo hoo!

Oh yeah, and check out my compliation of Ferrell’s Greatest Quotes and be sure to hit that like button while you’re there!
