Rick Moranis demonstrating the standard giant-eye-behind-the-magnifying-glass gag in "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids"
Wow, I haven’t watched Honey, I Shrunk the Kids in almost 15 years! This, along with the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were the two movies I watched on a loop as a kid. I’m happy to say that the special effects in this movie have stood the test of time. Especially the ant vs. scorpion scene. Which leads me to this observation – that is one super-mini scorpion! It’s just barely bigger than the ant! I’m not going to be walking on my lawn barefoot if there’s little mini-scorpions roaming the yard!
All in all, the movie is still enjoyable, in that sort of unoffensive Disney-fied kind of way. The sequel where Rick Moranis expands the children to giants was almost equally as entertaining. That been said, it’s a good thing Moranis stepped away from his size-defying laser gun and went on to become a Grammy-nominated country folk singer. No joke.
