February is behind us with The Lego Batman Movie and Fifty Shades Darker crossing the $100 million+ domestic gross level. Check out the top five movies from February and this year over on the on-going monthly recap post.

Now let’s turn our attention to March, which sees a number of big releases hitting theaters. Hugh Jackman’s final turn as Wolverine, the return of King Kong, and Emma Watson as Belle in Beauty in the Beast highlight the upcoming month. There’s also a ton of sci-fi movies hitting theaters this month.

Here’s the run down of the movies opening in theaters in March 2017, as well as a quick week-to-week take on how they should perform.

March 3:

Before I Fall

Logan

The Shack

Table 19

Quick Take: This is without question Wolverine’s weekend to dominate. Some speculate that it could be a record-setting opening for the franchise, pulling in as much as $80 million. While that’s certainly not out of the question, Logan should easily dominate the first weekend of March.

March 10:

Kong: Skull Island

Quick Take: The second weekend in March is poised to be an interesting showdown between the week-old Logan and the only big new entry of the month – Kong: Skull Island. The return of Kong is looking to generate around $40 million during opening weekend which could put it in a tight race with Logan for the top spot.

March 17:

Beauty and the Beast

The Belko Experiment

T2: Trainspotting

Quick Take: Wolverine and Kong will give way for Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. The live-action remake is projected to post a staggering $150 million+ domestic opening weekend.

March 24:

CHiPs

Life

Power Rangers

Slamma Jamma

Quick Take: The niche weekend at the movies shouldn’t prove to be much competition for Disney. Beauty and the Beast should easily ride into a second weekend atop the box office. Power Rangers should post a decent $35 million opening weekend with CHiPs opening around $15 million.

March 31:

The Boss Baby

Ghost in the Shell

The Zookeeper’s Wife

Quick Take: All eyes are on Scarlett Johansson in Ghost in the Shell during the final weekend of March. It’s important to keep in mind that the movie will be opening during Wondercon weekend. Whether that provides a boost or not remains to be seen, but the film in currently projected to open around the $40 million mark. The Boss Baby should also fare well given the lack of family films outside of Beauty and the Beast with a $25 million opening.

That’s the top 15 March movies to check out in theaters. Which movies are you looking forward to seeing?
