Time to look ahead to the films that will be arriving in theaters for February. While you’re at it, take a look back at how the films from January performed including which films were hits and which ones flopped.
There are a number of horror movies hitting theaters in February and it’ll be interesting to see if any of them breakout as hits or if they all cannibalize one another with audience fatigue. February 10 looks to be the biggest of February weekends with three high profile films releasing in theaters.
Here is what is arriving in theaters in February 2017:
February 3:
Rings
The Space Between Us
I Am Not Your Negro (limited)
The Comedian (limited)
Quick Take: There’s a good chance neither Rings nor The Space Between Us debuts at the top of the box office.Split has a good chance at repeating as box office champ while Hidden Figures should continue its strong run. Keep in mind, this is Super Bowl weekend, so box office numbers are likely to be down a bit, especially with no real new blockbuster attraction in theaters. I Am Not Your Negro is a heavily touted must-see movie worth seeking out if its playing in your area.
February 10:
John Wick: Chapter Two
Fifty Shades Darker
The LEGO Batman Movie
Quick Take: One of these three movies will be a new #1 once the weekend is over and the odds are in Batman’s favor. John Wick 2 and Fifty Shades should also do well within their niche audience, although the fate of a trilogy will rest on how well Shades does at the box office now that much of it’s pop culture fervor has died down.
February 17:
A Cure For Wellness
Fist Fight
The Great Wall
Quick Take: Look for Batman to repeat at the top here and for the Matt Damon led Wall to potentially be a bust domestically (it’s already made $200 million internationally). Meanwhile Fist Fight should perform well thanks to social media buzz and the lack of comedy offerings in February while the Gore Verbinski directed horror flick Cure for Wellness will likely tank.
February 24:
Get Out
Collide
Rock Dog
Tulip Fever (limited)
Quick Take: February rounds out with four movies you’ve probably heard very little about. This all bodes well for the likes of Fist Fight and Batman. Get Out will be the third wide release horror movie of the month while action movie Collide will look to add to it’s $2.5 million international total. The film stars Nicholas Hoult, Felicity Jones, and Anthony Hopkins among others. Lionsgate animated film Rock Dog will look to pick up some of LEGO Batman’s audience and Tulip Fever boasts an award-winning cast with Alicia Vikander, Christoph Waltz, and Judi Dench.
