One of the major blockbusters that seemed to get buried in the Deadpool/Suicide Squad/Batman vs. Superman hype was the Peter Pan/Captain Hook origin movie, Pan. Now that the Comic-Con haze has slowly cleared, Warner Bros. has released the new trailer that they screened in Hall H last Saturday.
Hugh Jackman plays Captain Hook in a campy, theatrical sort of manner and the film seems to bank heavily on special effects, but the action elements combined with a familiar intellectual property look good.
The biggest question is director Joe Wright, who to this point has directed more subdued period pieces including Oscar-nominated Keira Knightley trilogy of films films Pride and Prejudice, Anna Karenina, and Atonement.
Handling a beloved property certainly isn’t an issue for Wright, but with the stakes raised, is he able to pull off Pan? We’ll find out when the film sails into theaters October 9.
