100 Years of Movies in 100 Days – Day 77 – Highlander (1986)

Christopher Lambert IS "Highlander"

Christopher Lambert IS "Highlander"

THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE!!!!… Ok, I got that out of my system. As you can tell, the movie of the day was Highlander what with it’s battle of immortals and rockin’ Queen soundtrack. I had never seen this movie before, but had heard the ubiquitous catch phrase on numerous occassions. Alas, I can check this movie off the list.

Honestly, I liked the battle sequences between the immortals. Everything else with the cops was just boring. If they decide to remake this movie (not just make another sequel), I would do an Expendables-esque battle royale of immortals. Christopher Lambert is a bit up there but maybe in the remake he could play Sean Connery’s role of Captain Morgan, I mean, Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez. Yeah, I didn’t by that at all. That’s like James Bond going by the alias Takahashi Nakamoto.

Hmmm, so who should be the immortals. I’m throwing the following in just on sheer legacy – Jackie Chan and Jet Li, Sammo Hung and Donnie Yen as well. Hmm, maybe add Tony Jaa and Michelle Yeoh. Maggie Q can be in there too. Wow, that’s like an Asian martial arts Highlander right there. And then Mel Gibson can cameo thinking he’s in Braveheart. Or Bruce Willis could play the Ghost of Bruce Lee. Interesting. There might be something there. But then who would be the ultimate Asian martial arts Highlander? After all, THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE!!!! I see the final fight coming down to Jet Li and Donnie Yen and instead of fighting to the end, they’ll tap into their Chinese Communist roots and agree to equally share “the Prize.” But I’ll still cry when Jackie Chan’s head comes off. 😦
