So today was a bit tricky. I had a choice between three excellent movies, including one that has a 100% freshness rating on RottenTomatoes. But Bicycle Thieves was the movie that ended up arriving from Netflix so I went with that. A quick note though that The Treaasure of Sierra Madre (that’s the 100% rated movie) and Hitchcock’s Rope were also excellent movies. I’ve watched them both multiple times.

I hadn’t seen Bicycle Thieves in at least five years, so it was nice to take a trip back to the college days of having to watch this movie for class. The themes that run through this movie are so timely. The basic synopsis follows a father and his son. The father works odd jobs for money and this particular one requires a bicycle. His is broken but he really needs the job and the money. You can pretty much see where the story goes from there. The ending is iconic.

The final sequence where the father gives his son some money to take the bus so that he won’t have to watch his dad steal a bike is so heart-breaking. *sigh* On that note, I am super psyched for The Third Man tomorrow! Can’t wait!
